Happy birthday to us Lunàdigas!
The time has come to celebrate together these first ten years of work, born to give voice to childfree women in Italy and the world.
A voice that remained silent for far too long and risked being crushed by the monolithic and rhetorical narration of the sanctification of motherhood; a voice that, thanks to Lunàdigas, has been transformed into a diversified and colourful chorus of testimonies who share their story to the world, happily declaring their very existence, tearing down preconceived notions about women’s roles, desires, and fears.
The journey, therefore, started from childfree women, because the absence of words, reflections and ‘internal’ gazes was deafening, but along the way we realised that the need to ‘reset and restart’ was transversal, reaching non-mothers by choice but also not by choice, reaching women and also men, the LGBTQIA+ community, rainbow families, and all those who do not feel represented and understood in the common narrative.
And so here we are: the Live Archive in which all the testimonies are collected, the flagship of what has become the Lunàdigas Movement, now opens its doors wide and broadens its gaze to 360° on the universe of reproductive rights, questioning everyone at all latitudes, because this issue concerns us all, includes us all.
It will be months of celebrations and new things to come, but let’s start with the first one:
We start again with a revamped website and a brand new homepage, which is now online!
Flowers have blossomed from our nursery buttons, and among the flowers a nipple: nourishment for the offspring? A game of seduction? Or both? For us, simply, a symbol of self-determination of our bodies and desires, to be claimed without censorship, beyond all taboos.
And then the words, each in its native language, each invoking a way of defining women who do not bring children into the world, but also women who do not fall in line with common feeling, witches, subversives: by clicking on each one you can hear inside the testimony in which they are spoken and explained
As a manifesto of this new (lunar!) phase, we present ‘The Villa5 circle: one, a hundred, a thousand ways of being mothers and lunàdigas’: in the setting of a theatre, after the screening of the film ‘Lunàdigas, or concerning childfree women’, a group of women from different geographies share their personal stories, opening up the debate on the multiple ways of acting motherhood.
With this vivid example, we hope that this space will continue to be a reference for childfree women, but also a place where all people who want to discuss together about and on these issues can feel welcome in a big hug.
Let’s start again from here, more active than ever!
Happy new journey, Lunàdigas!
