JULIANA: «My name is Juliana, I’m 23 years old, I was born in Shkodra, Albania. Lawyer. Women became “burrnesh” because of the conditions they were in.»
SAMANDA: «It’s not like that…»
JULIANA: «How?»
SAMANDA: «I don’t think so, they wanted to be like that, they chose to be men.»
JULIANA: «No, it happened for various reasons that have to do with their mindset.»
SAMANDA: «They wanted to be like that, they wanted to wear pants, they wanted to be a man.»
JULIANA: «No, they wanted to get the same freedom men enjoyed, they didn’t want to be men, they agreed to be considered men.»
SAMANDA: «They wanted freedom…»
JULIANA: «They gave up their identity…»
SAMANDA: «No. They were no longer a she, but a he. She was him. History now recognizes them as men, not as women. It’s women who didn’t want to live as women.»
JULIANA: «They were women who fought to have rights like men.»
SAMANDA: «But not for women’s rights.»
JULIANA: «They fought for justice.»
SAMANDA: «They fought for men’s rights.»
JULIANA: «No!»
SAMANDA: «They were at the forefront of it all, presenting themselves as men.»
JULIANA: «But also, to have the rights that men have.»
SAMANDA: «They oppressed women!»
JULIANA: «No. They have increased the value of women.»
SAMANDA: «They oppressed women! They wear trousers never putting on a skirt and showing her legs.»
JULIANA: «Because they wouldn’t let them wear them.»
SAMANDA: «Ok. Maybe I was lucky enough to grow up at a time when women’s rights had been won through struggles, but I was also lucky to be raised by two parents with an open mind and I had the opportunity to win every freedom. But who knows if it was the same for your mom?»
JULIANA: «Certainly not, because she grew up in a different era, very different from now. Many things were not allowed to them, how to go out for coffee with friends or wearing a dress. They absolutely had to wear their pants under their clothes. Many freedoms were limited at that time, putting on makeup and hanging out with the boys was against that mentality.»
SAMANDA: «There’s a big difference between generations, I think we’re very lucky in ours. But we’re lucky to have parents who, although they did not enjoy it, they gave us this freedom. I see it from my mother who didn’t have the opportunity to attend the school she wanted, despite having made her choice. She was not allowed to go to school because it was the men who stopped her. It was the men who set the rules. I say the same was true for your mother.»
JULIANA: «I think they had no choice, they had to do what their parents said. Their father decided and they could not object. Their rights have also been violated and they haven’t had a chance to live their lives freely.»
SAMANDA: «Do you think we have more opportunities than our parents?»
JULIANA: «Of course! I’m free, I can decide, I don’t have to follow rules without being able to change them. I can do what I want with my life. The “burrnesh” is born a woman, lives as a man and dies as a woman.»
SAMANDA: «My name is Samanda, I am 22 years old, I was born in Scutari, Albania. Psychologist.»
Albanese:
JULIANA: «Unë jam Juliana, jam 23 vjeçe e lindur në Shkodër, Shqipëri. Jurista.
SAMANDA: «Une mendoj se kane dashte me kene te tilla, kan zgjedh me kene burra.»
SAMANDA: «Ata kan dashte me kan tilla, kanë dashtë me vesh pantollona, kane dashte me ken burra.»
JULIANA: «Jo ata kanë dashte me marr lirinë si burrat skan dashte me u ba burra. Ata kanë pranu me kene burra, kanë pranu me u drejtu si burra.»
SAMANDA: «Kane dashte liri…»
JULIANA: «Kane heq identitetin…»
SAMANDA: «Jo!
JULIANA: «Jo. Ata e kane rrit vlerën e gruas.»
SAMANDA: «Ata e kanë shtyp gruan! Ata kane vesh pantolla e kam mohu fundin e kembet e bukura.»
JULIANA: «Sepse nuk i kanë leju me i vesh.»
SAMANDA: «Ok.
Jo unë kam zgjedhjen time mund të bëj çfare të duan me jetën time.
Psikologe.»
