INTERVISTATRICE: "Cosa facevi in Francia?"
RANIA: "No, non ero in Francia, ero in Senegal. Studiavo lì."
INTERVISTATRICE: "Cosa studiavi?"
RANIA: "Lì ho studiato Medicina, dopo il diploma. Sì, è una esperienza magnifica."
INTERVISTATRICE: "Ci sei più tornata?"
RANIA: "No.

Je me suis éloignée tant. Ça me consomme, je m'enfuis dedans.
OK, on va faire ça.

RANIA: "I'm Rania Dridi, I am 27 years old I come from Tunisia, from La Goulette. and I studied Architecture. Before, I studied other things but I hadn't found my place. Currently in Architecture in Tunisia you don't need to do a big thing, you just have to realize an architectural project. But mine became very big and I encountered a lot of obstacles, from my teachers and all. They're the ones who... they said it's too big, it's not a 5th grade subject... And I couldn't do anything.
So, I completely gave up, with depression, with surgeries, with all that I've drifted so far away. And every time, I do everything, I do stuff that I need to. It consumes me, I withdraw. But I don't want to keep doing that, I'm going to keep my collection, my plants, they're my family. It was very hard some days, every time I separate from them it looks... it's becoming somehow weird. True, I'm selling, but I didn't think it was going to be that way. When I was told I had the booth, I borrowed money from my mother, I left, I bought plants, I bought cement and everything but I also brought there some of my plants.
They have names even, so I brought this one, it's mine, this one, I call her Lisa Simpson because she has thorns like Lisa's hair. This one is mine too. And this one, I took her 5 years ago, it's been with me for 5 years, and I struggled to let her go afterwards. I really wanted to exhibit; I wanted people to be able to see them. I want to share them; I want people to have that. I scream, I'm passionate, but I want people to share that. I want people to have a family of plants in their home. Yeah, but there are some, when I'm asked how much they cost, I say, that's not available, that's sold, whereas it's mine. You see, it's got a flower that's going to grow, it's the first time that it will bloom for me, so no, you will bloom at my place. This one, I don't know, it's a year, because I took it from the mother plant at home, it has bloomed for 3 summers already but for this one, it is the first time.
The person I sold one the first time she's actually a friend of mine who bought a new house. She decorated the house with handcrafted stuff, she liked the stuff I had, she said. "You're going to do it for me you're going to buy plants, you're going to plant them for me and I'll pay you". It was a little weird, I couldn't do it at first, but then I said okay, since I'm going to buy the plants. Okay, let's do this. It was fantastic. Her aunt, she saw that, she loved it, and told me you're going to do three for me. That's how it started for me. Then she told me: "You have to create a Facebook page". For Chouftouhonna, this is the first time that I take them out of the house. The first time. It's true that it's weird for me, you see."
INTERVIEWER: "Are you happy with this experience?"
RANIA: "Yeah, it was a pretty revealing experience, let's say, like the fact that I discovered that I don't want to sell my plants, as the fact that the feedback was positive. I wasn't expecting that, But there are a lot of people, even when they don't buy, they tell me it's really a good job and all. And I'm like: is that true? You think?"
INTERVIEWER: "Did you live in France?"
RANIA: "No, I wasn't in France. I was in Senegal. I was studying there. I studied medicine, after high school. That's when I did that. Yeah, it was a beautiful experience."
INTERVIEWER: "Have you been back since?"
RANIA: "No, but I wanted to go back. But you have to be in a good place in your life to be able to... travel. Anyway, I've travelled to other countries apart from Senegal, afterwards. Yeah, I have friends there, I lived with a Moroccan girl. She was a gorgeous friend and I have a lot of Senegalese friends, there is one who even came to Tunisia."soggetto lavoro hobby natura università piante persone citate Simpson, Lisa (personaggio cartoni animati) [persona citata]
